Manchester United have named a new technical director as Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s overhaul continues to take shape.

Back in February, it was officially confirmed that Ratcliffe and his INEOS team had become minority owners at United.

A club statement read: “Manchester United plc (NYSE: MANU), and Trawlers Limited, an entity wholly-owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are pleased to confirm that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has completed his acquisition of 25% of the club’s Class B shares and 25% of the club’s Class A shares, following the satisfaction of all conditions, including approvals from the Football Association and the Premier League.”

Since then, Ratcliffe has already lured Manchester City's chief football operations officer, Omar Berrada, to become United’s new CEO.

There have also been reports that the INEOS boss wants Dan Ashworth as the club’s new sporting director.

On Friday evening, the club announced that Jason Wilcox has become the new technical director.

Announcing the move on their official website, United said: “Jason Wilcox has joined Manchester United as Technical Director with immediate effect.

“He will work with all technical areas of the football department to achieve the highest standards of performance.

“Jason was previously Director of Football at Southampton and before that Academy Director at Manchester City. As a player he won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers in 1995.”

On the pitch, United have endured a tough season under Erik ten Hag, the Dutchman has failed to build on a decent first campaign in charge of the Red Devils.

A poor start to the season left them well behind in the race to finish in the top four of the Premeir League, as they currently sit 13 points adrift of fourth placed Aston Villa.

In Europe, United were embarrassed as they finished rock bottom of their Champions League group behind Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray.
