Ruben Amorim wasn't afraid to call out a Manchester United player after his first game in charge of the club.

The 39-year-old's managerial debut in the Premier League finished with a 1-1 draw at newly-promoted Ipswich Town after Omari Hutchinson's deflected strike cancelled out Marcus Rashford's early opener at Portman Road.

United showed some early positives under their new boss but it quickly fizzled out and it was clear that many areas still need to be improved on. United fans were critical of two players who they didn't believe performed well and it appears as though Amorim was in agreement.

After the game, Amorim spoke to the Sky Sports panel and Jamie Redknapp asked him about the need for his side to be better with high-intensity running in order to comply with his style and compete at the highest level.

And he proceeded to pinpoint veteran centre-back Jonny Evans as someone who needed to do better with his pressing on Ipswich star Hutchinson, who often found himself in acres of space in the pockets.

Evans started on the left of a back three alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui before being replaced by Luke Shaw in the 56th minute.

"If you see the first-half, the number five [Morsy] was always alone, we have to jump on him," he said to Redknapp on Sky Sports.

"Then the number 20, Hutchinson, was always here in the dead space. Jonny Evans should be pressing that guy. But when we don't have training, it's hard to tell all the reactions to the players. We had two days. They are confused a little bit and they stay here. If you stay here, you don't run.

"You defend, but you don't run. So you feel that in the data, you have to understand the data to see what happened during the game. First they have understand the game then we have to be so much better physically to cope with the high pressure, the volume of the high-speed running, all these things. We need time to work."

In his first XI, Amorim also had Amad Diallo and Diogo Dalot playing as wing-backs and Rashford playing through the middle ahead of Rasmus Hojlund.

United are back in action on Thursday when they host Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in Amorim's first game in charge at Old Trafford. They are currently 12th in the Premier League, six points off the top four.
