Roy Keane has told Manchester United to sign a Premier League star, claiming the player 'turns up week in and week out' in glowing praise.

Man United have set out their transfer priorities following the proposed takeover of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who expects his 25 per cent purchase to be ratified next month.

A No.8 is thought to be one of their transfer targets and Keane has a player in mind ahead of Erik ten Hag potentially entering the market.

The former Red Devils captain likes the look of Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz, calling him a 'quality player' who 'turns up every week'.

Speaking on Stick to Football – a podcast brought to you by Sky Bet - he said: "He turns up every week this player. Never seems to be injured. Quality player. I like him.

“I think he was linked with Arsenal last year. There are no surprises there, with some of the Villa players, you think they can certainly go on to play for a Man United, Arsenal or even Man City, you look at Watkins."

The former Premier League midfielder added: "But I like Luiz. He is consistent. Turns up week in and week out. You know what you are going to get from him. I like a lot about him. Probably lacks that real pace maybe.

"In terms of his decision-making and looking after the ball. Very, very good."

The Brazilian, who was on Manchester City's book earlier in his career, has been one of Unai Emery's best performers this season as Villa enjoy a stunning campaign.

He's made 20 league appearances this season, scoring six goals - having starred from the middle of the park.

His stellar performances have not only impressed Keane as Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are still thought to monitoring his situation at Villa Park.
