Roy Keane claims only one Liverpool player from 2019/20 champions would get in Man Utd's treble-winning team

Roy Keane would only have one Liverpool title-winner in Manchester United's treble-winning side.

Roy Keane only picked one Liverpool star for his combined XI made up of players from the 2019/20 Reds side and the 1998/1999 treble-winning outfit.

Keane played 55 times that season, captaining United to the incredible achievement.

They won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in a ten-day period - with the feat only replicated by rivals Manchester City 24 years on.

It was a special side and United legend Keane believes only one Liverpool player would get a look-in.

The Irishman appeared on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football back in 2020 and debated the teams alongside Jamie Carragher.

Both agreed on the likes of Jaap Stam, Denis Irwin, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Keane himself.

He went for Neville at right-back instead of Trent-Alexander Arnold, but was happy to bring in Virgil van Dijk in place of Ronny Johnsen at centre-back.

Carragher commented: "I don't think it's a big decision, put Van Dijk in next to [Jaap] Stam. But who's the best out of those two?"

Keane added: "I'm a big fan of Van Dijk. The guy's a machine, but Jaap was a machine, Jaap was fantastic.

"Van Dijk [is] a touch better on the ball. The two of them together you can't imagine conceding too many goals.

"I'd bring Van Dijk in, maybe the right-back, but leave the rest, 4-4-2. If they go on and win the treble this year, we'll have a different conversation."

The segment is perhaps best-known for Keane's priceless reaction to Carragher leaving Ryan Giggs out of his team.

Keane raved about Van Dijk but more recently he was criticising the Dutchman for what he perceived to be "arrogant" comments following Liverpool's stalemate with United.

The Reds skipper had said only one team came to play, leading to Keane branding him "disrespectful".

In response, Van Dijk calmly defended his remarks and disputed any talk of arrogance.

He said: "He is Man United throughout and I understand he could react like that but I felt what I said and there is absolutely no arrogance in that.

"Everyone who watched the game probably felt the same. We move on. We had the opportunity and we couldn’t score and that’s the frustrating part."
