TNT Sports pundit gets completely dismantled for his comments about Mason Mount during Man Utd win vs Athletic Bilbao

Mason Mount scored twice as Man United beat Athletic Bilbao 4-1 to set up an all-English Europa League final with Spurs.

Mason Mount agreed he had his best 20 minutes in a Manchester United shirt but his sensational cameo performance led to a comment which plenty of TNT Sports viewers disagreed with.

Mount came off the bench with United trailing 1-0 in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao, who took the lead through Mikel Jauregizar.

Though Ruben Amorim's side were leading 3-1 on aggregate after the first leg heroics, they were far from comfortable until Mount entered the fray along with Luke Shaw and Amad.

The England international followed up his goal against Brentford with a fine turn and finish to make it 4-1 on aggregate and ease any worries and after goals from Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund, Mount capped things off and made it 7-1 on aggregate with a stunning second from just inside the Athletic half after a poor clearance from Julen Agirrezabala.

It was a brilliant showing from Mount after a difficult period at United with injuries and on commentary, Robbie Savage made quite the statement.

"I think it’s been the best 30 minutes of his career," Savage said.

"What a performance from Mason Mount! What a substitution. They were struggling there but Mount scored two world-class goals."

Robbie Savage slammed by fans for Mason Mount comment

However, fans immediately disagreed with Savage's remark and pointed out that not only is Mount a Champions League winner, he assisted Kai Havertz's winner when Chelsea beat Manchester City 1-0 in Porto in 2021.

One viewer on X said: "Robbie Savage seemingly forgetting that Mason Mount assisted a Champions League winning goal here."

A second added: "Mason Mount assisted the winner in a Champions League final, but Robbie Savage claims this is the best 20 minutes in his life in European football."

A third user wrote: "Robbie Savage, I doubt it's the best 30 mins of Mason Mount's life."

Another blasted the former midfielder, commenting: "Is this Robbie Savage's first time watching Mason Mount, or? 'Best 30 mins of his career' is a shameless comment."

A final person simply stated: "Someone tell Robbie Savage that Mason Mount started, won and assisted in a Champions League final."

A £55 million signing from Chelsea, Mount's United career hasn't really get going but he took a huge step forward on Thursday and was beaming in a post-match interview on the pitch.

"I carried on going, working hard in training every day and tried to stay positive and when I had an opportunity to try to make an impact," Mount told TNT Sports.

"Today it paid off and I came on and affected the game. It was a tight game when I came on, I just tried to calm it down."

United will now meet Spurs in an all-English final on 21 May in Bilbao, with the winner claiming just short of £11 million and securing qualification for next season's Champions League.

With the extra spot handed to England for European performance, England are confirmed to have six teams in next season's competition in a never-before-seen scenario - with United or Spurs joining the top five in the Premier League.
