Former Man Utd player faces up to two years in prison less than a year after being released by Premier League club

The player is a former England youth international and was once tipped for great things.

Former Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams could face up to two years in prison after admitting to dangerous driving.

Williams, 24, was spotted driving at a speed of up to 99mph in an Audi A3 near Handforth, Cheshire on August 20 2023, according to the Crown Prosecution Service with information relayed by BBC news.

He was treated in hospital for injuries before being taken to the Middlewich custody suite.

The footballer later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without third-party insurance, with a maximum punishment of two years custody.

"Witnesses said Williams kept speeding up and then braking sharply, it was clear he wasn't in control of the vehicle," Andrew Madden, senior Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor said.

"The driving was erratic and the speed was grossly excessive. Eventually, Williams lost control completely and crashed."

The 24-year-old will be sentenced on May 9 at Chester Crown Court.

At the time of the incident, Williams was contracted to Manchester United but was out on loan at then-Championship outfit Ipswich Town and has since been released by the Red Devils - he is now without a club.

The left-back made his United debut in 2019 during an EFL Cup match against Rochdale before starting in a Europa League fixture against AZ Alkmaar just over a week later.

Then on October 20, 2019, he made his Premier League debut against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old impressed then-United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during an away match against Partizan Belgrade, in which the academy graduate won Man of the Match.

"For me, Brandon was man of the match,” said Solskjaer after the game.

“He's been fantastic the few games he's played. The boy has no fear, he is as brave as a lion and he got us the win.”

"Brandon has an absolutely great attitude," he added. "The boy is going to be a top, top player."

Williams' efforts over the 2019/20 season earned him a four-year deal at United thought to be worth around £65,000 per week, as per Daily Mail.

The full-back was loaned to Norwich for the 2021/22 season before joining their rivals Ipswich on loan ahead of the 2023/24 season and made 17 appearances for the Tractor Boys.
