Manchester United have a trick up their sleeve that could help them land Antoine Semenyo as rivals Liverpool 'consider' making a big-money bid in January.

Semenyo has been one of the Premier League's standout performers so far this season, notching six goals and three assists for Andoni Iraola's Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old had attracted serious interest ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, with Manchester United, Tottenham and several others being linked with a summer move.

But after much speculation, Semenyo signed a five-year deal with Bournemouth at the start of July, although a clause in his contract means he could leave in the not-so-distant future.

In fact, the Ghana international has a £65 million release clause in his contract that can be activated during the first two weeks of the January transfer window, according to BBC Sport.

Liverpool are considering a bid for Semenyo in January, according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the club are "well informed" on Bournemouth's asking price.

Manchester United are also being linked with a move for the in-form forward, and a so-called 'subtle gesture' could help them get a deal over the line as they try and gain an edge over their opponents.

A report from the Manchester Evening News suggests United will hope to turn Semenyo's head with the promise of his preferred number 24 shirt.

At the moment, the number is occupied by goalkeeper Andre Onana, but his future at Old Trafford remains in doubt after being loaned out to Turkish side Trabzonspor for the 2025-26 campaign.

"Given the goalkeeper's current standing, it would be no grievance for the club to relieve Onana of the jersey," said the report. "Especially if it would help them land one of the most in-demand players in the Premier League at present."

Fabrizio Romano drops telling update on future of Antonio Semenyo

As mentioned above, Liverpool are considering a move for Semenyo, who is also attracting interest from Manchester City, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano gave a detailed update on Liverpool’s pursuit of the forward.

“I maintain my information on Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. Liverpool have his name on their short list for sure," he began. “Liverpool are considering Semenyo for the January transfer window. The Reds are well informed on the disclosed £60 million plus £5m.

“Semenyo remains a topic for Liverpool for sure. is a player they are tracking, is a player they are following.

“Now what has to happen to see moving to Liverpool? Liverpool need to decide internally what they want to do in January. Something like okay we like this player let’s go for it.

“After already spending big money in the summer they need to decide on the technical and financial point of view what they want to do in the January transfer window. So this is going to be decided in the next weeks for sure. But Liverpool are seriously considering Semeno."

Romano added: “They’re not the only club because I told you last summer Semenyo was in the list of Man United. Last summer Semenyo was in the list of Tottenham. Manchester City are also following the players. So keep an eye also Man City. There is a lot of interest in Semenyo.

“It is an opportunity on the market. A player who is doing fantastic for Bournemouth, for this money which is a big amount but still worth it. And so for sure Liverpool are really interested in the player tracking the player.”
