Man United's transfer valuation for Marcus Rashford in 2023 shows how much he has declined

Manchester United's transfer valuation for Marcus Rashford is a lot different than what it was just over a year ago as United consider offloading the academy product.

Rashford has spent his whole career with United, joining the club at the age of seven and going on to score 138 goals in 425 games in all competitions since making his breakthrough in 2016.

But after a huge decline in his performances, doubts about his long-term future at the club have been raised and bombshell reports claim he could even be solid in the January transfer window.

Rashford scored three times in Ruben Amorim's first two Premier League games against Ipswich Town and Everton but United no longer see him as unsellable, particularly given the club need to comply with PSR (profit and sustainability) rules.

As a homegrown player, selling Rashford would bring 100 per cent profit for United on the PSR balance sheet. The same applies to the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, though the club very much want to keep the pair.

According to Chris Wheeler from the Daily Mail, United would consider offers of around £40 million for Rashford in the January transfer window.

Remarkably, the fee is a monumental decrease in what United valued him at back in 2023. Then, as per the report, the club's asking price was £100 million after Rashford scored 30 goals in Erik ten Hag's first season at United.

Rashford bagged a lucrative, five-year contract worth £325,000-a-week off the back that but has been a shadow of his former self and a year on, he was nowhere to be seen in England's Euro 2024 squad.

But while he is being written off, former United coach Rene Meulesteen believes Rashford would benefit from consistency and the ability to build his confidence back up after constant tweaking from Amorim.

Ruben Amorim needs to make it clear to Marcus Rashford of what he expects from him,” Meulensteen told Lucky Block. “All players need confidence – if he plays a lot and starts scoring goals then he’ll find his confidence again. He needs to stay in the same position and rebuild his form.

“However, from what I’ve seen so far – and I don’t know whether Amorim does it on purpose – but he keeps moving and changing Rashford’s position in the team.
