Manchester United fans have gone into meltdown after seeing the XI that Ruben Amorim picked during his first training session as manager.

The 39-year-old oversaw his first session on Monday, having had to wait for the formalities of his work permit application to be completed in England.

Amorim sprung an early surprise at Carrington with his decision to promote 6ft 5in 16-year-old centre-back Godwill Kukonki into the first team squad for the session.

A total of 10 senior players were involved in training, including Leny Yoro and Mason Mount, with many of United's players on international duty.

But fans got an idea of what to expect from Amorim, with a number of small-sided drills and game-like situations practiced.

United posted footage of the training session to their official website, and fans got a glimpse as to the personnel that they could line up with against Ipswich on Sunday.

United fan @AmorimBalll interpreted the system as a 3-4-3, with Yoro, Jonny Evans and Luke Shaw lining up as part of a back three.

The Shaw position is particularly notable as the England defender has played in central defence before, and may suit the 29-year-old moving forward as he looks to get a regular run of fixtures under his belt.

The returning Tyrell Malacia lined up in front of him at wing-back, with Antony surprisingly on the other side. It is fair to say, though, that the Brazilian won't line up there on Sunday, with Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot still to come back from international duty.

Kobbie Mainoo partnered Casemiro in midfield, with Amad Diallo and Mason Mount behind Marcus Rashford, who was playing as the lone striker.

It goes without saying that several stars, such as captain Bruno Fernandes, will be involved against Ipswich - but it at least gave United fans an indication of where Amorim may prefer some players to play.

Reacting to the clip, one fan wrote: "Bro I think I can see the idea already."

A second stated: "I am excited."

Others picked out individual players that could shine under Amorim, with one writing: "Malacia will be insane in this system."

Another added: "Really can't wait for Mason Mount under Amorim."
