Manchester United fans on social media pulled no punches as they made their feelings clear on Erik ten Hag following the club's crushing 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

The Red Devils returned to action on Wednesday following their humiliating defeat to cross-town rivals to Manchester City last weekend.

Erling Haaland bagged a brace - with Phil Foden adding a third, as the Blues condemned Ten Hag's side to their fifth league defeat of the season.

Man United are already way off the pace in the Premier League and they have lost a chance to win silverware after being knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

The holders succumbed to Eddie Howe's team as the Magpies ran out 3-0 winners at Old Trafford.

Howe and Co exacted revenge in a repeat of last season's Carabao Cup final, where Man United beat them 2-0.

After the defeat, Man United fans took aim at Ten Hag and questioned his position.

One X user wrote: "Back to back 3-0s in your stadium, i’m sorry this is just not good ENOUGH!"

A second tweeted: "Ten Hag is in trouble now, I don’t care."

A third argued: "Sacking Ten Hag is not the answer."

A fourth said: "I see teams at the bottom of the league more compact and organised than us defensively. I’m sorry but there’s literally no excuse you can make for Ten Hag, this is amateur stuff we’re talking about."

A fifth fumed: "Jose Mourinho and Ole did more with less. Ten Hag with all the money spent has no identity, no style of play and nothing doing."

Man United had recorded three scruffy victories over Brentford, Sheffield United and Copenhagen before losing to Man City and Newcastle.

They sit in eighth place in the league table as they resume their faltering campaign on Saturday against Fulham.

Will Ten Hag turn Man United's fortunes around this season? Let us know.
