Man Utd 'in advanced talks' to beat rivals Man City to major signing

Manchester United are looking to beat rivals Manchester City for a signing which could have a huge impact on their season.

Manchester United are in active talks to steal a new signing under the noses of rivals City, reports claim.

The Red Devils have made four significant signings so far this summer but fresh reports say they are working on a fourth addition who has also been linked with their city rivals.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding City's goalkeeping position all summer, with Ederson looking as though he was heading for the exit door prior to his contract expiring next summer.

The Brazilian has been heavily courted by Turkish giants Galatasaray amid speculation that City were looking to snap up Paris Saint-Germain shotstopper Gianluigi Donnarumma following his contract stand-off.

That is despite the club paying £27 million to bring back James Trafford, who started and kept a clean sheet in his debut against Wolves last weekend.

However, journalist Sacha Tavolieri claimed City feel as though PSG's demands for the Italian are too high and had turned their attentions to a cheaper alternative in Royal Antwerp's 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

But in contrast, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that United are clear in the race to sign the Belgian international and are in the middle of discussions with Antwerp, whilst also closing in on agreeing personal terms.

Andre Onana has proved unreliable in the sticks at Old Trafford ever since signing from Inter Milan, making a number of costly errors in big games.

He was left out of the United squad for the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal as Turkey international Altay Bayandir, culpable for the only goal of the game, got the nod.

Ruben Amorim was adamant that Onana was not dropped and was only left out because he was not up to speed fitness wise.

"I didn’t drop Onana from the squad. I didn’t drop one of the other two from the squad," Amorim said in his post-match press conference.

"It is not putting Andre Onana with just one week, without seeing a game, without time training."

The Portuguese also said he was "happy with the three goalkeepers" - including 39-year-old back-up Tom Heaton.

Meanwhile, Ederson is in line to return to the City squad against Spurs on Saturday after missing the opening game through injury.
