Man United fans worried they'll 'do a Liverpool' and not win the title for 30 years

Manchester United fans fear they could follow Liverpool in going 30 years without a title.

Manchester United fans fear they will "do a Liverpool" and go three decades without lifting a title.

Between 1979 and 1990, Liverpool were dominant and won eight league titles - but they endured a 30-year period where the Reds failed to win the big one.

Liverpool supporters had to wait until 2020 to see their side become Premier League champions and because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were no fans in attendance to witness it in the flesh.

And in a post on Reddit, a section of United supporters are worried they could follow suit. The Red Devils faithful have regularly mocked their North-West rivals for talking about the post but they themselves have now gone ten years without a title.

Their 13th and most recent Premier League title was in 2013 when Robin van Persie won the league by himself in Sir Alex Ferguson's final season at the helm.

And though Erik ten Hag ended a six-year trophy drought last term, one fan took to Reddit to claim that "Liverpool's 30 years without title doesn't feel so silly anymore".

They wrote: "We've mocked them endlessly, yet we're already 33% of the way there. And with City's dominance, Newcastle's rise and Arsenal catching up 20 more years of playing for 2nd-4th and winning the occasional cup doesn't seem far-fetched now."

The post caused debate aplenty but it transpired that many shared the same view.

Another fan stated: "We’re NOT the new Liverpool…. We’re the new Tottenham."

A third commented: "There will not be another league title in our hands until the Glazers are no more."

A fourth said: "We’ve become everything we mocked before wouldn’t be surprised at this rate if Qatar doesn’t come."

A fifth added: "With Newcastle joining the rich list our chances of winning the league have never been more remote."

An honest sixth user predicted: "If the Glazers stay for another couple years and keep running the club like they run it right now, I’m pretty sure not many people in this sub won’t live to see another PL title."

It's worth noting that United did go 26 years without a title prior to Ferguson taking the reins. The Old Trafford outfit's best finishes in recent times have been in second under both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
