Manchester United fans believe they have worked out the reason Erik ten Hag’s side are suffering so many injuries with Aaron Wan Bissaka the latest to be ruled out.

Right-back Wan-Bissaka is set for a period on the sidelines after sustaining an unspecified injury.

The 25-year-old came on as an 85th-minute substitute in United’s 3-1 defeat against Brighton to Saturday.

The former Crystal Palace full-back had started the game on the bench, having battled illness during the week.

And United have announced Wan-Bissaka is now set for a period on the sidelines, with early indications suggesting he will miss several weeks.

United are already without defenders Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, alongside midfield duo Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat. Youngsters Amad Diallo, and Kobbie Mainoo are also out through injury.

Furthermore, Jadon Sancho is training away from the first team amid tensions with Ten Hag, while Antony has been given time off to address assault allegations made by former partners, which the Brazilian denies.

According to a contingent of fans of X, the social media platform formally known as Twitter, United’s spate of injuries is down to the players being overworked in pre-season,

One person said, in response to Wan-Bissaka’s absence: “Overworked in pre-season, played so many games.”

Another wrote: “With all these injuries - questions for me have to be asked about ten Hag’s decision to organise multiple behind closed doors friendlies. If after 8 pre-season games (double that of City & Arsenal) there are still players lacking game time then you are doing it wrong.”

A third person wrote: “Most are muscle injuries - maybe we shouldn’t have been jetting halfway across America & back during pre-season.”
