Manchester United fans are furious and have made their feelings clear after hearing the club's latest change behind the scenes.

Man United are enduring a difficult Premier League campaign, having lost a staggering 12 league games this season.

They occupy 14th place in the table and are a massive 14 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, who sit in the last official Champions League spot.

Man United, who remain in the Europa League, have accounted for the prospect of missing out on European qualification this season, according to The Telegraph.

What's more, the club's hierarchy, which includes Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Omar Berrada, have set their sights on missing out on Champions League football.

Per the report, budgeting going forward has been calculated under the assumption that Man United qualify for the Europa League for the next four years.

This is a marked change after years of budgeting to reach the Champions League knockout stages.

Man United have historically tended to budget for the club reaching the Champions League quarter-final stage each season but they have only achieved that feat twice since Sir Alex Ferguson walked away in 2013.

The club are adopting a more prudent approach to budgeting, having previously always aimed to be in the Champions League.

Naturally, the development of Man United's new budget plan regarding European football has angered fans on social media.

One X user wrote: "Yet somehow have a target to win the league in 2028?"

A second tweeted: "I’m guessing project premium league 2028 is put back 10 years."

A third added: "Other clubs like Forest and Aston villa are in the ucl and we're pushing for Europa League for next 4 years."

A fourth commented: "I genuinely might switch clubs."

A fifth said: "Our club is a joke. In terms of football, @ineos has set us even further back than we were, crazy we have fucking regressed #MUFC."

Man United's FA Cup exit last weekend eliminated a route into Europe next season.

They are now relying on winning the Europa League to qualify for the Champions League.

The Red Devils face Real Sociedad in the last-16, with the first-leg taking place on Thursday.
