Erik ten Hag branded 'dreary and delusional' in scathing attack as two Man Utd legends call for sacking

Several Man Utd legends have had their say on Ten Hag.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been branded 'dreary and delusional' by club icon Teddy Sheringham - while another legend has also been critical.

The comments emerged following United's 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, in what was another miserable evening during 2024 for Ten Hag and his side.

The Dutchman was without five senior centre-backs, both left-backs and captain Bruno Fernandes, but the starting XI fielded against Palace was unable to get the job done.

Ten Hag stated after the game that he would 'keep fighting' as United manager, but his future at the club looks increasingly uncertain.

But former United forward Teddy Sheringham has blasted the current boss - and believes it is time for him to depart his role.

Speaking to Genting Casino, he said: "If your leader, the manager, is not leading in the right way, other people follow that standard. Ten Hag isn't the leading from the front.

"I know he's had some difficult decisions to make with certain players, but for some reason he just doesn't come across with the personality required to take Manchester United forward.

"He doesn't have the personality. It's all a little bit dreary.

"He's trying to pull the wool over the eyes of journalists when he says that the club are doing well and controlled the game. What game is he watching? It's delusional. He's giving out the wrong vibes as the leader of Manchester United."

Speaking on Premier League Productions, meanwhile, legendary United midfielder Paul Scholes echoed some of those thoughts - and added that while he previously believed Ten Hag would 'get another year' under the new INEOS regime, those chances are fading.

He said: "Tonight felt like the final nail in the coffin.

"There was a lack of know-how from the team, a lack of effort which is the big disappointing thing.

"I've felt he might get another year and work for a club that has calmed down a little bit by the new owners, but it just doesn't feel like it now.

"It's quite plain to see it feels like borrowed time."
