Manchester United are set to rival Barcelona for a player who has been regarded among the best young talents in world football.

Every year The Guardian provide a list of the 60 “best young talents in world football” and among this year’s contingent is Lucas Bergvall, a 17-year-old who plies his trade at Swedish side Djurgården.

As per a fresh report, Bergvall is catching the attention of some of the world’s biggest clubs, including United.

According to Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto (as per Fotboll Direkt) the Old Trafford club are competing with Barcelona among other clubs to sign the teenager.

The La Liga giants have reportedly made direct contact with Bergvall’s entourage, while Inter have allegedly already made an “official offer”.

Meanwhile, United are said to be remaining “attentive” to the situation but have not yet made an offer.

Elsewhere Swedish outlet Fotboll Direkt, has claimed French side Rennes and Inter are “not relevant” to the conversation for Bergvall.

Moreover, Bergvall is said to be keen on the prospect of playing for Barcelona, who may choose to make a move from January onwards.

Bervall was only 16 when he helped Brommapojkarna get promoted to Sweden’s top flight in 2022, having previously been captain of the club’s various youth teams that have won trophies across Europe.

His performances in Sweden’s second division saw the nation’s top sides register an interest, and soon Bervall secured a move to the team he supports, Djurgården.

The youngster has impressed in his first top-flight season, racking up 26 appearances in all competitions and claiming one assist.

Moreover, he plays up for the national team, with the under-18s and was recently called up to the under-21 squad.
