Scott McTominay issued a classy response when asked about the banner Manchester United fans held up during the team's pre-match warm-up against Fulham.

The Red Devils picked up a much needed win at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon following consecutive 3-0 defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle.

After a cagey 90 minutes, captain Bruno Fernandes arrived in stoppage time and led by example, jinking inside before curling an effort inside the bottom right corner.

After a hugely disappointing week, United fans finally had something to cheer about. But that didn't stop them sending a message to the players before kick-off.

As the squad ran out onto the pitch to train, two young supporters raised a banner which read: "Play like you mean it!"

During his post-match interview, McTominay, who has often been the source of inspiration for United in recent weeks, was asked if he had spotted the banner and how it made him feel.

The Scotsman admitted he and the players had spotted the message and claimed that they had even discussed it between them.

"We saw the banner before the game and a few of us said, McTominay explained.

"Do you know what, the fans pay good money to come and watch every week and the support is relentless towards us every single week and we just want to repay them as best as we can.

"Things aren't going the best at the moment but it's a building block. We can go and kick on and do better."
