Bruno Fernandes scores long-range goal for Man Utd after Aaron Ramsdale error

Bruno Fernandes scores long-range goal for Man Utd after Aaron Ramsdale error

Fernandes opened the scoring.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for Manchester United in their pre-season friendly against Arsenal following an error from goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Fernandes started the game as United captain - his first since replacing Harry Maguire as official club skipper.

The attacking midfielder picked up the ball from outside the area, and fired the ball towards the bottom corner.

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale dived to keep the shot out, but only succeeded in parrying it into the net.

And some fans were not impressed with the England international for the error.

Fans question Ramsdale over Fernandes error

Taking to Twitter, one United fan mocked the Arsenal shot-stopper by writing: "Ramsdale was compared to Onana.."

Another added: "Some people actually said Ramsdale is the best goalie in the league."

A third wrote: "Kind of Ramsdale to help Onana win the goalkeeper debate when he's not even on the pitch."

A fourth said: "Ramsdale what is this?"

Things would get worse for Arsenal before half-time, after Gabriel Magalhaes attempted to play the ball forward. The ball ricocheted off his boot, with Jadon Sancho racing through on goal.

United's number 25 then went on to make no mistake, firing an effort into the roof of the net beyond Ramsdale to put Erik ten Hag's side 2-0 up.

There were a number of notable performers in the first half, with Kobbie Mainoo in particular impressing after being handed a start by Ten Hag.

The Manchester Evening News reported earlier this week that the 18-year-old midfielder will stay at the club after impressing the Dutchman - and it is clear to see why Ten Hag rates him so highly.

After a challenging half for his side, Mikel Arteta will hope to see a better performance in the second half, despite being a pre-season friendly, as the Gunners look to get back into the game.
