Alejandro Garnacho told he’s ‘ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’ at same stage of Man Utd career

Alejandro Garnacho told he’s ‘ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’ at same stage of Man Utd career

Alejandro Garnacho scored a stunning brace as Manchester United beat Aston Villa.

Alejandro Garnacho has been sensationally told he's 'ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo' at the same stage of their respective Manchester United careers.

Garnacho starred as Man United came from two-goals down to beat Unai Emery's Aston Villa 3-2 at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

The Argentine winger delivered on the ring wing while Marcus Rashford looked a threat on the left wing.

He pulled one back after rounding fellow countryman Emiliano Martínez then slotted home from Rashford's pass to draw level.

Rasmus Hojlund scored his first Premier League goal since his big-money summer move to make it 3-2 and gave a brilliant post-match interview following his heroics.

Naturally, Garnacho was named 'Player of the Match' for his stunning brace, with Samuel Luckhurst claiming the 19-year-old is 'ahead of where Ronaldo was at the same stage' at Man United.

Luckhurst pinpointed the budding talent's importance to the team, highlighting the amount of starts both players enjoyed at the same age.

He wrote; "The longest run of starts Cristiano Ronaldo had as a 19-year-old at Manchester United was eight and the eighth came on his 20th birthday. Alejandro Garnacho has started in United's last 13 matches."

Luckhurst added: "The United supporters fed off Garnacho's enterprise and emotion as they recorded another 3-2 comeback to add to the vintages of 2002 and 2012 at Villa Park."

The journalist also praised Erik ten Hag's 'sensible' management as he denied Garnacho the iconic No.7 shirt when it became vacant following Ronaldo's departure. He was linked with the shirt before it was handed to summer arrival Mason Mount.

Garnacho already has as many goals this campaign - five - as last season, having played 25 games in all competitions.

He will likely keep his place in the starting XI when Man United face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
