Manchester United have received positive news regarding the injury of Lisandro Martinez.

Martinez was forced off injured in Man United's 3-0 victory over West Ham United on Sunday.

He had only returned to action last month following a long-term injury.

But, according to reports in Argentina, Martinez does NOT require surgery and will be out for a maximum of two months.

That's according to Gaston Edul, who claims the defender has sprained his collateral ligament.

Man United hope to have the 26-year-old back after the international break in March.

So, Erik ten Hag will be without his key defender for crucial games against Aston Villa this weekend and Manchester City next month.

Martinez will also miss this month's FA Cup fifth round tie.

But if he does indeed return after March's international break, then he could be in line to return against Brentford on March 30, before potentially being in contention to face Chelsea and Liverpool.

Ten Hag gave an immediate update following his side's victory over West Ham.

Asked how serious the issue is, the Man United boss replied: "I can't say but it doesn't look good. There is a bad concern.

"We have to wait for a few days for the diagnosis. We do everything to get the right diagnosis and see what is the damage.

"He is very sad, very disappointed. We all feel really with him. First of all, it is a personal disaster when it is really bad, but also for the team it is really bad because he definitely brings us a lot."

The Dutchman added: "It is very bad - very bad for him, very bad for the team. He is a very important player for us.

"We have centre-backs who can fill in but he brings spirit to the team, apart from his football abilities."

With Martinez at the back, the Red Devils have remained undefeated, winning three and drawing one of their four games.
