Kobbie Mainoo's one specific demand to leave Manchester United for Chelsea has been revealed in a new report.

Mainoo, who came through the ranks at his boyhood club before going on to play 60 times in the first-team, has been in contract discussions for quite some time.

His current deal runs until 2027 in line with an agreement he signed back in February 2023, though Capology say he remains one of United's lowest-paid players on £20,000 per week.

Although currently sidelined with injury, Mainoo and the club are said to have opened fresh contract discussions - with the England international and his camp keen for a significant pay rise which reflects his value to the club.

But other clubs are closely monitoring his situation, with Chelsea taking a particularly keen interest and making "tentative contact" with his representatives.

The Blues were linked back in January and could go back in for Mainoo, whose sale would be pure profit on United's balance sheet because of his homegrown status.

However, according to GiveMeSport, Mainoo is asking for around £180,000-a-week at United and would want the same level of salary at Stamford Bridge.

That would mean he would be ahead of Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer, who earns £130,000 per week in west London.

However, the demands could well put Chelsea off doing a deal as they may be hesitant to add another high-earner to their wage bill.

In terms of negotiations with United, it's claimed that all parties may well come to an agreement on terms of £150,000-a-week including bonuses.

Mainoo is believed to be valued at around £80 million and is one of the biggest assets United currently have along with Alejandro Garnacho.

Though £180,000-a-week has been the figure mentioned in regards to Mainoo's contract talks, talkSPORT's Alex Crook believes it is actually much lower.

He stressed that Mainoo does not wish to leave as he loves United, but the situation does need resolving sooner rather than later.

“I think it’s nearer £150k a week, but again, this is a sign that Manchester United are trying to trim the wage bill," he said, as per Utd District.

"We know when Amad Diallo signed his new deal, it was only, and I say only in inverted commas, 100 grand a week, but that is obviously a lot less than United have historically paid.

“Mainoo is an academy product, someone who loves the football club. He wants to stay at Manchester United, but it’s just a case of coming to an agreement, read the terms, and obviously there is also this PSR issue that United may have to tackle this summer.”
