Kobbie Mainoo has revealed his footballing idol and it's got fans online talking.

Mainoo has shot to fame following his incredible and mature performances in the middle of the park for Manchester United this season.

The 18-year-old has made 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals - including a stunning strike against Wolves in his side's dramatic 4-3 victory at the start of the month.

The teenage sensation sat down with the club's official website and touched on several topics about his young journey in football.

He picked Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro as the best teammates he's played with.

He also named his idol. Mainoo replied: "My idol? Growing up, it was Ronaldinho. He’s my favourite player."

Ronaldinho, 43, is double (and more) Mainoo's age, but the Red Devils phenom has opted for the Barcelona legend as his idol to the dismay of people on social media.

They joked that Mainoo would have been very, very young when Ronaldinho was balling for the Catalan giants.

One X user wrote: "Ronaldinho was 31 y/o at Flamengo when Mainoo was 6 y/o. Love YouTube comps."

A second joked: "I'm older than him and barely had the chance to watch Ronaldinho in his prime."

A third added: "Brother you’re 18 years old. By the time you were old enough to watch dinho he was already on his last legs."

A fourth said: "How much of Ronaldinho would this guy have actually seen?! He would've been like 3 years old when he went Milan."

A fifth commented: "Wasn't he like 2 years old when Ronaldinho was in his prime?"

Ronaldinho was in his mid-twenties when he was starring at Barcelona and joined the La Liga club before Mainoo was born.

The Man United youngster would've been two-years-old/three-years-old when Ronaldinho shone in Spain.
