Jamie Carragher has revealed the 'extraordinary' fact about Erik ten Hag ahead of Manchester United's crunch game against Tottenham.

Man United resume their faltering Premier League campaign on Sunday, having beaten Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Monday.

They lie in eighth place and have 31 points on the board, nine points adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal.

The Red Devils, who lost 2-1 to Nottingham Forest in their last league outing, host Ange Postecoglou's Spurs in a fixture that has huge implications for European qualification spots.

The match at Old Trafford will mark Sir Jim Ratcliffe's first visit in person for the first time since his 25 per cent purchase of the club was confirmed.

Ineos' director of sport Sir David Brailsford has been at all three Man United games since the announcement of the £1 billion deal, while Ineos chief executive Jean Claude Blanc was also at the FA Cup win against Wigan.

Ahead of Ratcliffe's appearance for Man United vs. Spurs, Carragher compared the situation at the club to when Liverpool were acquired by Fenway Sports Group.

At the time of FSG's purchase, Roy Hodgson was in charge, but he was relieved of his duties after losing nine of his 31 games.

Carragher explained why the new men in charge of Man United may want their own manager as he described Ten Hag's position at the club as 'far from untouchable'.

However, the Liverpool legend went onto reveal how Erik ten Hag could surpass Sir Alex Ferguson's win percentage if Man United beat Spurs.

In his column, he wrote: "One of the more extraordinary facts about Ten Hag is that he will surpass Sir Alex Ferguson’s win percentage should his side beat Tottenham Hotspur this weekend."

Carragher, though, added: "A more damning statistic is United have lost 14 of their 29 fixtures this season."

Man United appeared to find some form when they fought back against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

But they failed to build on that performance as they lost at the City Ground.
