Jadon Sancho has headed back to Manchester United after his exile away from the club and Erik ten Hag has revealed details of what they spoke about in their showdown meeting following the attacker's return.

Sancho spent the second half of last season out on loan back at former club Borussia Dortmund after a fallout between him and United boss Ten Hag.

Last campaign, Sancho was left out of United's matchday squad for their defeat to Arsenal away at the start of September, after Ten Hag revealed the decision was made after his training performances.

Sancho took to social media to criticise his manager's view and claimed he was being made a 'scapegoat', before it was taken down, and the attacker later trained away from the first team squad.

It appeared as though Sancho's United career - which began in 2021 after he moved to Old Trafford in a £73m move from Borussia Dortmund - might have come to an end, and he subsequently moved on loan back to the club he was purchased from for the second half of last season.

Sancho scored three goals in 21 games in his second stint at the German club and was part of the Dortmund side which finished as runners-up to Real Madrid in the Champions League, before heading back to Old Trafford this summer.

He has since been integrated back into Ten Hag's squad and headed out on pre-season tour with United to the USA.

Sancho's United contract runs until at least the summer of 2026, with the option for an extra year, but it seemed the England international would likely be sold at one point as he has been strongly linked with a move away.

That may still happen as United seek to raise funds in the transfer market this summer and continue their compliance with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.

Upon Sancho reporting back to United earlier this summer, the attacker spoke with Ten Hag about the future and earlier this month, the United boss said the pair had 'drawn a line' under their feud, though he did not confirm if the player had personally apologised to him.

Ten Hag has now shed more light upon those talks and what the pair discussed following Sancho's return and the fallout they had last season, which they seem to have now put firmly behind them.

The United boss said: "We left this [the disagreement] behind us and we said everything about this. We know from each other what the standards are and how we want to work, how we want to collaborate, and we need a good team.

"We just spoke about the standards, the levels, the abilities.

"When I took over you need good players to construct a good team and he's definitely a very good player."

Where Sancho will be playing his football by the end of the transfer window remains to be seen, but it now seems remaining at Old Trafford could be a more realistic prospect than some may have thought at the start of the summer.
