Erik ten Hag has been handed a one-match ban for his antics during Manchester United's win over Luton on Saturday.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways at Old Trafford, beating the Hatters 1-0 thanks to Victor Lindelof's 59th-minute strike.

But among the drama, spectators may have missed Ten Hag be shown a yellow card for complaining about the award of a throw-in.

The Premier League's new rules state that that three yellow cards will result in a one-match touchline ban for managers, having upgraded the punishment from four bookings to three at the start of the campaign.

Therefore, Ten Hag will not be on the touchline for United's trip to Goodison Park after the international break, when they face Everton in the Premier League.

Discussing the booking after the game, the Dutchman told beIN Sports (via Manchester United's website): "Yes, that's the way [it is], So I have to accept that. It’s not nice but I’m sure we’ll prepare for Everton and my coaching staff will take over, they are very competent to do the job.

"So that was about a moment so clear, it was a throw-in," elaborated Ten Hag at his post-match press conference. "But it was the second time. I was on top of it and it was so clear and obvious [it was] our ball. It was my remark, therefore, I got booked.

When quizzed on whether he would fine himself for the incident, Ten Hag replied: "If the players get a red card, they probably get fined. But, for a booking, they don't get fined. There is a certain point you have to accept decisions, what I should do as well."

United's win over Luton leaves them sixth in the Premier League title and will have brought Ten hag valuable breathing space as speculation grows over his future at Old Trafford.
