Erik ten Hag has given his verdict on Marcus Rashford after his goalscoring return to the Manchester United starting line-up against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Last week Rashford dominated the news cycle for all the wrong reasons after he was absent from his team's 4-2 win over Newport County.

The England international was the subject of an “internal disciplinary matter” after he was pictured out in Belfast earlier in the week ahead of the Newport game.

United said in a statement on Monday: "Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed."

And upon being the subject of media scrutiny, Rashford returned to the United line-up for a Premier League encounter against Wolves on Thursday evening, and went on to score with just his third touch of the game.

On Rashford’s goal, Ten Hag told TNT Sports: “Sure! It was a fantastic team goal and we’ve scored more of such goals, from the build-up, many players involved, we get the switch and score a great goal.”

The Dutchman added: “I think what you see consistently is the last games, he has three goals and two assists in three or four games so the form is coming.”

The story of the evening however was Kobbie Mainoo, who netted a 97th-minute wonder goal to see United dramatically claim a 4-3 victory.

On the academy graduate’s performance, Ten Hag said: "He is making incredible progress.

"He has great abilities. He is the modern midfield player. He can attack and he can defend. He has the intelligence and the physicality, and he is also composed."

However, the Dutchman had reservations regarding his team’s performance as a whole.

Ten Hag added: "To be honest, I have mixed feelings.

"For the neutral, for the spectator, it is great to see. But as a manager, when you have dominated for an hour and should be three or four up, the way we concede the goals, we should manage it better, it cannot happen."
