Man Utd player 'waiting for Erik ten Hag to be sacked' to save own Old Trafford career

Man Utd player 'waiting for Erik ten Hag to be sacked' to save own Old Trafford career

Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure at Manchester United.

One Manchester United player is reportedly waiting for Erik ten Hag to be sacked before deciding his own future at the club.

The Red Devils have endured another tough start under Ten Hag as they currently sit 11th in the Premier League table.

However, they did manage to end their five-match winless streak after coming from 1-0 down to beat Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday.

On the back of the victory against the Bees, the pressure has slightly eased on Ten Hag but his long-term future remains uncertain.

It has also been claimed that one United player is waiting for the Dutchman to be replaced by the club before deciding his own future.

As reported by Football Insider, defender Harry Maguire is waiting for Ten Hag to be sacked before making a decision on whether to leave the club.

The report stated: “The centre-back is keen to assess whether he will play an increased role under a new boss after Ten Hag’s exit.

“Maguire, 31, is set to see his current contract at Old Trafford expire at the end of the season as things stand, and no talks have taken place over a new deal. With Ten Hag reportedly leading the push for the defender’s exit, there is every chance the manager could leave before he gets to make the decision.”

SPORTbible has contacted Harry Maguire’s representatives for comment.

Over the summer, Maguire was linked with a move away from United but a transfer never materialised.

So far in the 24/25 season, the Englishman has made nine appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal during a Europa League tie against FC Porto.

Speaking after the match against Brentford, goalscorer Alejandro Garnacho said: “We are very happy. But I think we also played a good performance in the first half - we came in [at half-time] 1-0 down. But I think we played, in general, a very good game.

“I missed two big chances in the first half, but I came back in the second half with the same mentality, trying to score and win the game, and, finally, I could do it.”
