Manchester United fans have already pointed out a big difference during their first match since sacking Erik ten Hag.

On Monday, Dutchman Ten Hag left United, a statement read: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”

On Wednesday night, United were led by Ruud van Nistelrooy as they looked to book their place in the last eight of the Carabao Cup.

United were off to a flyer as Casemiro scored inside 15 minutes, Alejandro Garnacho then made it 2-0 after 28 minutes.

Bilal El Khannous pulled one back with 33 minutes on the clock before Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro made it 4-1.

Conor Coady again pulled another goal back in stoppage time as United headed into the break 4-2 up.

Reacting on social media, one fan has noticed a difference already, writing: “Notice what United did after conceding? No sign of a capitulation at 2-1 that became the norm under Erik ten Hag.

“Fearlessly attacked as if nothing happened straight from the KO. Rewarded with more goals. That’s the mentality we all want to see and have dearly missed.”

Another tweeted: “Manchester United is playing very well right now. They look better under Ruud this game, than under Ten Hag for this past season.”

A third fan added: “Ruudball is already better than Ten Hag ball.”

However, some fans were not convinced, one said: "The defence still weak and vulnerable." Someone else added: "The defensive unit is still worrying me but the attack looks much more fluid."
