Erik ten Hag has been mocked by fans after he outlined Manchester United’s trophy ambitions for this season.

So far, the 23/24 campaign has been a major disappointment for United.

Despite spending big in the summer on the likes of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, Ten Hag’s team have performed way below par.

The Red Devils are currently eighth in the Premier League table and their European campaign has come to a close after a disastrous Champions League group stage.

However, despite the early season setbacks, Ten Hag has refused to rule out winning the Premier League.

He said, as per United Zone: “We still have the Premier League, so we have two trophies to play for. We will play for the Premier League and for the FA Cup.”

Reacting to Ten Hag’s comments on social media, one fan said: “Bro thinks we're winning the double.”

Another tweeted: “This guy talks too much no wonder we always lose.”

A third fan added: “Lol man said the Prem.”

Someone else wrote: “Love the confidence. But somebody should tell Ten Sack, based on recent performances, Wigan have a fairly good chance to knock United out of the FA Cup. Let alone winning the PL.”

A fifth commented: “Fight for the Prem when almost half the games we played so far we lost... cool.”

Another United fan said: “What is Erik smoking?”

Ten Hag also spoke about his meeting with British billionaire and INEOS boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who agreed to buy a 25 per cent stake in the Old Trafford club last month.

When asked if the pressure to win a cup has increased after meeting Ratcliffe, the Dutchman said, via The Sun: “That is not up to me. But from my talks I had a fantastic feeling after it.

“The personalities, their ideas, the process they want to go in — I am very positive about it. And I am sure it will be beneficial for Manchester United.”

United will travel to the DW Stadium on Monday night as they begin their quest for the FA Cup against League 1 side Wigan Athletic.
