"Maybe he can" - Erik ten Hag claims Harry Kane will go down in Premier League history amid Rasmus Hojlund arrival

"Maybe he can" - Erik ten Hag claims Harry Kane will go down in Premier League history amid Rasmus Hojlund arrival

It's a bold claim.

Erik ten Hag has made a bold prediction regarding Harry Kane’s standing in the game.

Last week it emerged United had reached an agreement with Atalanta over Rasmus Hojlund.

The deal in principle is worth an initial £64million, some £13million shy of Atalanta’s asking price entering negotiations, while United will also pay a further £8million in add-ons.

Despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Hojlund was always set on joining United and has agreed to a five-year contract at Old Trafford with the option of an additional 12 months.

Yet, a contingent of United fans were disappointed upon news United were focusing their attention on Hojlund, given Kane looks set to leave Tottenham this summer.

The England captain has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, yet United baulked at the forward’s £100million price tag.

Ten Hag makes bold Kane prediction

In an interview with the Guardian, Ten Hag offered a glimpse of why, initially, United had identified Kane as their primary summer target.

Indeed, the United manager suggested that the 30-year-old could go down as the best striker in Premier League history.

The Dutchman said: “I don’t talk about players in other clubs.

“I have to respect the club and respect the player. Especially Harry Kane, I have huge respect because he is a great striker, one of the best ever. Maybe he can be the best striker ever in the Premier League.”

Since United pulled out of the race, Kane has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, with Sky Germany claiming the club’s chief executive and technical director are flying to London to meet with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

A gap in valuation allegedly exists between Bayern and Spurs but Kane remains open to speaking formally to the German club if Spurs are satisfied it is a good deal.

The German champions are convinced Spurs' record scorer wants to join them, with Kane having refused to sign a new contract this summer.
