Former Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is now without a club after having his latest contract terminated just months after leaving Old Trafford.

Bailly, 29, spent seven underwhelming years at United before finally leaving the club in the summer, having managed only 70 Premier League appearances since 2016.

After spending the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Marseille, Bailly was sold to Turkish club Besiktas in September.

He signed a one-year deal with the Turkish Super Lig side and was hoping to revive his career, having failed to live up to his £30m price tag at United.

But things certainly haven't gone to plan in Turkey for the Ivory Coast international.

He was banished from the first-team squad at Besiktas earlier this month, with the Turkish club citing 'poor performance and incompatibility within the team' for his exclusion.

Bailly was one of five players to be excluded from following a defeat to rivals Fenerbahce.

Following the loss, a club statement read: "Information from our club. 5 players from our Football A Team have been excluded from the squad.

"Our Football Teams General Coordinator Samet Aybaba; He announced that Vincent Aboubakar, Valentin Rosier, Eric Bailly, Rachid Ghezzal and Jean Onana were excluded from the squad due to poor performance and incompatibility within the team."

Besiktas have now confirmed that Bailly has left the club after having his contract terminated.

"Our Football A Team's player Eric Bailly's contract has been terminated by mutual agreement," read a second statement.

"We wish Eric Bailly success in his career."

At the start of November, Bailly was involved in a bust-up with his own teammate Tayfur Bingol during Besiktas' league clash at Antalyaspor, which they lost 3-2.

Bailly blamed the altercation with Bingol on 'competitive tension' and taken off at half-time following the argument.

He struggled with injuries later on in the campaign and went on to manage just eight appearances in total before having his contract ripped up.
