Bruno Fernandes has sent Manchester United fans into meltdown after a message he sent to Chelsea star Cole Palmer on social media.

The United captain was on target as the Red Devils won a fourth game in a row under caretaker boss Michael Carrick on Saturday, defeating Spurs 2-0 at Old Trafford.

After Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead in the first half after Cristian Romero saw red, Fernandes secured the three points nine points from time.

Victory in the early kick-off moved United four points ahead of Chelsea in fourth but the gap was immediately educed to one point after Palmer inspired the Blues to a 3-1 win over bottom club Wolves.

A substitute against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final, Palmer bagged a first half hat-trick for the Club World Cup champions - including finding the net twice from the spot.

His heroics came after an extremely tough season with injury and they got the seal of approval from Fernandes.

After Palmer posted a series of pictures from the game, the Portugal international jumped in the comments to praise the 23-year-old, writing: "What a player" alongside a clapping emoji.

Given recent speculation about Palmer's future and links to his boyhood club, United fans believe they know exactly what game Fernandes is playing.

One supporter on X wrote: "We see what you are doing Bruno."

A second commented: "Agent Bruno finding his replacement."

A third added: "Bruno might just be sending him the final green light to come and experience greatness at Old Trafford."

Palmer responds to rumours about future

Palmer, who has a long-term contract with Chelsea until 2033, scored his fourth Premier League hat-trick for the west London and addressed the recent rumours about his situation.

Switching up from his usual celebration after the first of his three goals, Palmer covered his ears and blew a kiss at the away end.

Commenting on his gesture to BBC Match of the Day, Palmer said: "Everyone loves to chat rubbish, don’t they? I don’t pay too much attention to it. You see things,’ Palmer said.

"But I feel like I’ve come from a strong place anyway so I don’t pay attention to it."

Palmer also described life under new boss Liam Rosenior as "amazing" as he said he "really likes" the way the team plays and the strategy on the training ground.

Chelsea's talisman has been struggling for fitness for large parts of this season but is hoping to be injury free and produce his best form heading into the final stretch of the season and the World Cup in North America with England.

"I don’t think [I’m 100 per cent fit] just yet," he stated.

"Obviously people don’t know what goes on behind the scenes but being injured the whole season is not ideal and when I’m not able to perform as I want to because I’ve been injured, and still dealing with the injury, but hopefully I can get over the injury soon by managing it.

"I know what level I can provide when I feel 100% fit. Not being 100% fit isn’t ideal, I still feel like I can help the team but when I’m back to full fitness I feel like I can go to another level."
