Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was reportedly 'waving his arms' at one of his players during Saturday evening's clash with Newcastle United.

Ten Hag took his side to St. James' Park on the back of a disappointing 3-3 draw with Galatasaray in the Champions League.

It leaves United staring at elimination from the competition, sitting bottom of Group A on four points.

The Dutch coach decided to make four changes from Tuesday's draw in Turkey, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial replacing Antony and Rasmus Hojlund.

It's Martial who managed to get on Ten Hag's wrong side in the first half. Per Samuel Luckhust of the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag and Martial were seen 'waving their arms' while 'having a go' at one another.

Bein SPORTS pundit and former United striker Dwight Yorke remarked: "27 years-old and playing for your career. I'm scratching my head why his [Martial] energy levels are so low."

The France international scored his first league goal of the season in last Sunday's 3-0 win over Everton and is seen as a backup to Hojlund, who is yet to score in the top-flight since arriving from Atalanta over the summer.

His contract expires next summer and it's expected he'll leave the club after nine years at Old Trafford.

United were second best in the first half and Newcastle had several opportunities to go ahead.

Andre Onana was in fine form to make saves from Anthony Gordon and Miguel Almiron and Kieran Trippier rattled the bar from a free-kick.

Victory for either side will see them move up to fifth in the table and one point behind Aston Villa in the final Champions League spot.

Ten Hag opted to bring 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo back into the starting XI after coming off the bench in midweek.

Mainoo made his first Premier League start against Everton and impressed in a hostile atmosphere.

"It tells something about the great potential of English football, with such young kids coming up, so it's good for the academies and it gives them recognition they are ready to play," Ten Hag explained.

"The pitch is the same everywhere, the size of the pitch, 11 vs 11, with a referee, so go on and kick off. We have to build on our performances lately. We are in the right direction and this is a very big test.

"We've played some very good sides, Newcastle are also difficult to play, so we have to play our best. I expect something from my team in transition and with intensity."
