Fans have been left divided after Manchester United were denied a penalty against Tottenham Hotspur.

Erik ten Hag’s men produced a nervy display as they managed a narrow 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford last week.

Whilst Spurs, managed by Ange Postecoglou, were involved in a pulsating 2-2 draw against London rivals Brentford.

Heading into the clash on Saturday afternoon, both United and Spurs were looking to produce a much-improved performance.

In front of a packed crowd inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, both teams made a decent start to the match.

However, there was a hugely controversial moment with 25 minutes on the clock after Alejandro Garnacho’s shot was blocked by the hand of Spurs defender Cristian Romero.

After a VAR check, the referee waved play on.

Reacting on social media, fans have been left divided by the latest VAR controversy.

One said: “I hate united with a passion but i think its 100% a pen.”

Another tweeted: “No pen—payback for last week Varchester.”

A third fan added: “HOW IS THIS NOT A PEN?????”

Someone else wrote: “100% a penalty.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Arguable. I dont think that is a penalty after last week”

Former United defender Gary Neville said on Sky Sports: “Both of his arms were up, it's whether his right arm was close enough to his body.”

Since that penalty incident, the match sparked into life as both sides created chances to find the opener.

United captain Bruno Fernandes squandered a huge chance after missing from close range, the Portuguese missed the target with his header after a brilliant cross from Luke Shaw.

On Fernandes' miss, Neville said: He was onside as well!

"What a chance. He looked around to see if the linesman had put his flag up out of embarrassment..."

Meanwhile, Spurs hit the woodwork twice through Pedro Porro and Richarlison.
