Man United post cryptic Tyrell Malacia ‘update’ ahead of Sheffield United clash

Manchester United full-back Tyrell Malacia is yet to feature for Erik ten Hag’s men this season

Manchester United have posted a cryptic update on defender Tyrell Malacia that left more questions than answers.

Last summer, Dutch defender Malacia joined United from Feyenoord in a deal worth a reported £13 million.

Malacia was manager Erik ten Hag’s first signing as United boss.

After making 39 appearances during his first campaign with the Old Trafford club, Malacia missed United’s pre-season tour due to injury.

Back in August, Ten Hag said: “Malacia will take some time.”

Ahead of this weekend’s Premier League match against Sheffield United, the Red Devils gave fans a brief update on Malacia’s situation.

On their official website, United said: “Ten Hag will hold his pre-match press conference on Friday and Sergio Reguilon and Raphael Varane could be among the topics of discussion.

“Reguilon has missed the last four matches due to a minor injury, while Varane had to sit out the 2-1 win over Brentford, leaving the Reds with just four fit senior defenders as Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are long-term absentees.”

This update will not be what United fans were hoping to see as they continue to be left in the dark over Malacia’s injury and availability.

United also gave injury updates on Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro.

They said: “Lisandro Martinez has joined them on the sidelines as his metatarsal issue requires further surgery.

“Casemiro sustained a knock during international duty, with the midfielder substituted after 79 minutes of Brazil’s 1-1 draw at home to Venezuela.”

United have endured a difficult start to the 23/24 season after collecting just 12 points from their opening eight Premier League fixtures.

In the Champions League, United currently sit bottom of Group A after losing to both Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.
