Manchester United have been left concerned by Lisandro Martinez’s performance against Brighton and Hove Albion.

On Saturday afternoon, United hosted Brighton at Old Trafford as Premier League football returns after the international break.

Brighton took the lead after 21 minutes thanks to former Red Devil Danny Welbeck.

United’s summer signing, Rasmus Hojlund then had a goal denied by VAR after it was adjudged that the ball went out of play before Marcus Rashford crossed it for Hojlund to tap home.

Brighton then went 2-0 up in the second half through Pascal Gross before Joao Pedro made it 3-0.

Hannibal Mejbri’s fine effort made it 3-1 but it was another disappointing performance from Erik ten Hag’s men.

The Red Devils were booed off by disgruntled United fans as the final whistle was blown.

During the match, United fans were left worried by the performance of Argentine centre-back Martinez.

Towards the back end of last season, Martinez suffered an injury that ruled him out for the rest of the campaign, and many fans fee he hasn't been the same player since his return.

Reacting on social media, one said: “Martinez has been under average this season. He’s been very slow and sloppy and rash on top of that worrying signs.”

Another tweeted: “Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez decline is not normal. I've never seen anything like it.”

A third fan added: “Lisandro Martinez has been awful since he came back. That back 4 is a mess and Casemiro is aging fast.”

Someone else wrote: “Lisandro Martinez isn't the same player anymore after his injury, hoping he will be back.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Lisandro Martinez regressed so much since his injury.”

Another fan said: “Lisandro Martinez post injury… uncomfortable conversations.”

On the back of the result, United are in 12th place in the Premier League table whilst Brighton are in third place in what has been another promising start for Roberto De Zerbi’s men.
