Kyle Walker has revealed Manchester City's dressing room reaction to Trent Alexander-Arnold's comments about Liverpool's trophies "meaning more".

The right-back caused a serious stir with his remarks made ahead of a huge showdown between the two sides at Anfield on Sunday.

Although there have been an element of mind games, Alexander-Arnold said, "How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we've done it, it probably means more to our fans."

City striker Erling Haaland was asked about the claim in an interview with Sky Sports, delivering a brutal put-down when he replied: "I've been here one year and I won the treble. It was quite a nice feeling. I don't think he [Alexander-Arnold] knows exactly this feeling."

Ruben Dias also gave his two cents in an interview with BBC Radio Manchester, though Pep Guardiola declined to comment and instead wished Alexander-Arnold a speedy recovery from injury in Friday's press conference.

City captain Walker appeared on Rio Ferdinand's FIVE podcast and was asked to give his response.

But while the England international wasn't too eager to give his take, he did confirm that it was a hot topic in the City dressing room.

He admitted: "I'm not even getting involved! It's been floating around the changing room today!"

Ferdinand told Walker that the comments could serve as perfect motivation ahead of the crunch clash, saying that it is "half your team talk done".

But the 33-year-old went on to explain that he is still yet to taste victory at Anfield during his time at Spurs and City.

City have a poor record away at Liverpool, with their only win in seven league visits under Guardiola coming in the 2020/21 season when no fans were in attendance.

He added: "I've never won there. Never won there, with no team. [Riyad] Mahrez could have changed it but he skied it, the penalty.

"I think the fans are incredible but I've just never won there."
