Pep Guardiola talked up Nottingham Forest and their European history ahead of Manchester City's but fans think the Catalan was just trolling.

City host Forest at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday after coming from behind to beat Red Star Belgrade in their first Champions League game of the season on Tuesday.

Julian Alvarez bagged a brace, before Rodri sealed a 3-1 win for the treble-winners. City are of course the holders of the competition after finally lifting the trophy with a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in Istanbul.

Their next opponents are a club who have two European cups to their name, with Forest winning it back-to-back in 1979 and 1980 - beating Malmo and Hamburg under the legendary Brian Clough.

Guardiola himself has four to his name - one as a player in Johan Cruyff's 'Dream Team' and three as a manager.

Ahead of the visit of Forest, the 52-year-old brought up that European record in his most recent press conference.

He told reporters: "We have Nottingham Forest. Two Champions League winners. They have won more Champions Leagues than us. This is the truth, I am not joking."

Forest fans won't be able to use the "Champions of Europe you'll never sing that" chant but fans were in agreement that Guardiola was doing a little bit of mocking.

One wrote: "When Pep hypes u before his team faces u Be scared!"

A second said: "This man is hilarious!"

A third weighed in: "This guy with his subtle comments."

A fourth person added: "Pep has been trolling too much of recent."

A fifth commented: "Guardiola roasted Nottingham Forest with facts."

A final user stated: "Pep hyping them just to beat them 5 nil. Seen this before."

City battered Forest 6-0 in the fixture last year before drawing 1-1 at the City Ground, with Chris Wood's late strike cancelling out Bernardo Silva's goal.
