A Manchester City legend who played under Pep Guardiola for years revealed he would have loved to have featured for a Jurgen Klopp side.

Sergio Aguero is a City legend, having notched a club-record 260 goals in his decade at the club, including an iconic injury-time winner against Queen’s Park Rangers in 2012 to win City’s first-ever Premier League title.

Aguero went on to win four further Premier League crowns at City, three of which came under the management of Guardiola.

Nevertheless, Aguero admitted he would have loved to have played for Guardiola’s great rival, Klopp, during his career.

On the German, who is leaving Liverpool after nine years at the end of the season, Aguero told Stake: “Terrific manager, Klopp has certainly elevated Liverpool, allowing them to become a protagonist of the Premier League in recent years.

“He's made them more aggressive, more intense in their playing style. New players have arrived and Jurgen has managed to adapt them to this offensive mentality.

“He'll be sorely missed in the Premier League... but he's made his choice, and it's up to us to respect it.

“Any great manager will teach you many valuable things. It would have been a great experience for sure [to play under Klopp.]”

Back in February, Aguero explained the demands of playing for a Guardiola side, revealing that at times he even thought the Spaniard didn’t like him.

Aguero said via Essentially Sports: “At first our relationship was very good.

“In a game against Stoke City, I scored two goals and in the conference, he said something like, ‘I like Aguero to score goals, but I want him to work more for the team.’

“I asked him why he didn’t tell me and he apologized to me because he didn’t realise. Game after game we tried to find a way for me to increase the pressure.

“I thought he didn’t like me, but in reality, he was the coach doing what he thought was right.

“I think today it’s not a question of whether he liked me or not, it was just that it didn’t serve his ideas and we had to respect that.”
