Manchester City reportedly want to ‘replace’ Kevin De Bruyne by signing two top-quality players in a £160m double swoop this summer.

De Bruyne, 33, will leave Manchester City as a six-time Premier League winner upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June.

The Belgian admitted that he was a “bit surprised” by City choosing not to offer him a new deal, following the side’s 2-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, 19 April.

“I have not had any offer the whole year, they just took a decision,” De Bruyne told reporters. “Obviously, I was a bit surprised, but I just have to accept it.

“Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level like I’m showing, but I understand clubs have to make decisions.”

However, next Tuesday, the 33-year-old will play his final game as a Manchester City player at the Etihad Stadium when Pep Guardiola’s side take on Bournemouth in the Premier League.

But who could replace the iconic midfielder at City?

Replacing De Bruyne will be a tough task and won’t come cheap. As reported by The Telegraph, City have made AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders their top target in the summer transfer window.

Reijnders, 26, usually plays as No. 8 but has also been known to fill in in a deeper role when needed.

The Netherlands international, who boasts 22 caps for his country, is contracted to Milan until June 2030 and could warrant a fee of around £60m. Reijnders has produced 15 goals and five assists in 51 appearances for the Rossoneri this season.

Meanwhile, City could also target Nottingham Forest and England attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, who has registered six goals and ten assists in 36 appearances for the Reds this term.

Football Insider reports that Gibbs-White could set City back around £100m if they were to pursue him this summer. The midfielder is out of contract at Forest in the summer of 2027.

Speaking to NBC Sports in April, The Athletic's David Ornstein said: “The recruitment will now be centred around a replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. The likes of Morgan Gibbs-White from the Premier League will be under consideration and on their radar.”
