Fans all spot the same thing after Man City win men's Club of the Year award at Ballon d'Or ceremony

A disappointing moment.

Manchester City won the men's Club of the Year award at the 2023 Ballon d'Or ceremony - but there was one very important part missing when they collected it.

City won the treble of the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup last season, and were recognised with the prize at the ceremony in Paris.

Ballon d'Or nominees associated with the club, including Bernardo Silva, Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias, all stepped up to accept the award, as well as Champions League final-winning goalscorer Rodri.

But viewers spotted one player that was missing - Ilkay Gundogan.

The German international captained City to the treble last season, and is in Paris after being nominated for the men's Ballon d'Or award.

And fans all said the same thing in response to not seeing the midfielder with his former team-mates.

Taking to X (Twitter), one wrote: "Gundogan should have been up there."

Another said: "Gundogan was left all alone."

A third added: "Why is Gundogan not with them?"

The 33-year-old now plays his club football for Barcelona, and therefore wasn't able to join his former team-mates on the podium.

It will, therefore, have been a slightly bittersweet moment for Gundogan, who instead had to sit back and watch clips of his success played on the big screen in Paris.

He finished in 14th position in the men's Ballon d'Or rankings, with some arguing that he should have finished higher after an impressive past 12 months for both City and Barca.
