Malaga fans greeted a random tourist at the airport as if he was a new signing in a hilarious protest over a lack of activity in the transfer market

A decade ago the Andalusian side were in the Champions League quarter-finals, losing out to Jurgen Klopp's Borussia Dortmund in controversial fashion.

Fast forward ten years and the club who once had Santi Cazorla, Isco and Ruud van Nistelrooy on their books are now preparing to play in the third tier of Spanish football.

They had three different managers last term and were relegated from the Segunda division after finishing 20th.

They will be in the same league as Atletico Madrid's B team this season and with it not being a great time to be a Malaga fan, supporters decided to have a bit of fun recently.

Footage has gone viral showing a section of fans greeting a random member of the public at the airport, pretending he was their next marquee signing.

The chap had a scarf placed around his neck, with a fake security guard ushering him through the crowd as he signed autographs and held up a shirt with the No.69 drawn on it.

It seems as though he didn't have a clue what was going on but he played up to it brilliantly in some quite fantastic scenes.

Ironically, Malaga have actually signed a total of ten players in the current window but every single one has been a free transfer.

Fans loved the comedic touch from their fans, who displayed a lot of humour even in some dark times for the club.

One wrote: "This is wonderful comedy."

A second said: "This is peak football culture."

A third added: "THEY'RE DESPERATE. Their owners must be the worst."

A fourth loved it, commenting: This gotta be funniest thing I've seen this year."

A fifth weighed in: "Malaga fans are just brilliant man. They deserve so much better."

A final user stated: "I’m crying. My boy was more confused than anyone has ever been."
