Arsenal fans think they spotted what Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk 'almost said' in his post-match interview after his side drew 2-2 at Aston Villa.

The Reds took a point away from Villa Park after Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a second half equaliser.

Arne Slot's side went ahead in the first half through Mohamed Salah, but goals from Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins gave Villa the advantage heading into the interval.

Liverpool, though, may consider the draw to be two points dropped after Darwin Nunez missed what was effectively an open goal from yards out after his side had made it 2-2.

The result does move the Reds eight points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table, though the Gunners do now have a game in hand.

Van Dijk was on post-match media duty at Villa Park - and Gunners fans were listening intently.

Supporters thought the Dutchman was about to say 'Credit to Arsenal' instead of Aston Villa in his interview on TNT Sports.

One fan wrote: "Living in his head rent free."

A second said: "We have Merino playing up front and he's scared of us already."

A third claimed: "The Arsenal aura."

But other fans were not having any of it, with one writing: "He says credit to us and Aston Villa as well and these think he went to say Arsenal."

A second aimed a dig by writing: "This is gonna be their trophy when they don't win the league this season."

And a third added: "He clearly said credit to us."

Liverpool face Arsenal at Anfield on May 10 in a match that could yet be pivotal in deciding the destination of this season's Premier League title.

The Gunners, though, will need to rely on Liverpool dropping more points and sustaining a run of form themselves amid an attacking injury crisis that is currently causing them to be without Bukayo Saka - who is closest to a return - as well as Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.
