Liverpool fans immediately picked up on how Virgil van Dijk reacted to Arne Slot shaking hands with Crystal Palace captain and rumoured target Marc Guehi prior to the Community Shield.
The Premier League faced FA Cup winners Palace at Wembley in the season's curtain-raiser, with three of the Reds' new signings stating the contest.
Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong both got off the mark, while Florian Wirtz registered an assist and left-back Milos Kerkez also impressed in his official debut.

Liverpool's business may not be done however as aside from the Alexander Isak saga which likely will not end with him moving to Anfield, they also continue to be linked with a move for England defender Guehi.
Liverpool allowed Jarell Quansah to sign for Bayer Leverkusen but an injury to Joe Gomez has left the Reds a little light in central defence.
Van Dijk's regular partner is Ibrahima Konate, with Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo capable of deputising.

But according to Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, Liverpool are the favourites sign Guehi, with his former club Chelsea looking elsewhere even with Levi Colwill's ACL injury putting him on the shelf.
The Merseyside giants have reportedly been monitoring Guehi's situation for a while, with the 25-year-old's deal expiring next summer.
With Liverpool in pole position, Guehi received a handshake from the Slot tunnel and Van Dijk had a priceless facial expression.

Guehi impressed in the 2-2 draw but had to be forced off late on at Wembley with an injury. After sitting down on the pitch in frustration over the problem, Guehi was eventually replaced by Justin Devenny - who scored the winning penalty in the shoot-out.
Asked whether Liverpool will look to bring in another defender pre-match, Slot told TNT Sports: "We have more than enough options [in that area], but if we see a chance in the market we will not hesitate to act."
