Liverpool fans massively concerned by what Ruben Amorim just said in his latest press conference

Liverpool fans have voiced their concerns over the club's search for Jurgen Klopp's successor after revealing comments from No 1 target Ruben Amorim.

After former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso ruled himself out of contention for the job last month, Amorim has since emerged as strong favourite for the upcoming vacancy at Anfield.

Amorim's Sporting Lisbon side delivered the domestic Portuguese treble in 2021 and famously knocked Arsenal out of the Europa League last season - putting him firmly in contention for a top job in the Premier League.

Sky Germany claimed on Tuesday that Amorim has verbally agreed to replace Klopp once the German leaves Liverpool at the end of the season.

That has led to claims that Amorim is already planning signings at Liverpool, with Portuguese outlet Jornal Noticias reporting that Amorim is keen to bring Goncalo Inacio, Ousmane Diomande and Morten Hjulmand to Anfield.

However, Amorim has now hit back at those reports, insisting a formal interview with Liverpool is yet to even take place.

"I did NOT meet Liverpool for any interview and there's no agreement, it's not true," he said, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

"I'm Sporting manager, I want to win here and I didn't meet any club. Nothing has been agreed.

"Stop with this story. This is the last time I speak about my future."

Liverpool fans have taken to social media to express their concern over Amorim's comments and the club's search for a new permanent manager.

One angry fan posted on X: "We haven't even interviewed the guy yet, this managerial search has turned into a FARCE!"

"Another manager rejected Liverpool," added a second fan.

A rival fan wrote: "Liverpool in the mud."

While another added: "Rejected LiVARpool again they are dusted."

While it is unlikely Amorim would admit an agreement has been reached with Liverpool before the end of the Portuguese season with Sporting, his claim that an interview is yet to take place is certain to raise eyebrows.

Despite those claims, Amorim remains favourite with the bookmakers to replace Klopp at Anfield.

Speaking to BBC World Service, meanwhile, former Liverpool defender Abel Xavier explained what Reds fans can expect from Amorim should he take charge.

He said: "He is very humble, discreet and has a very clear mindset.

"He put in place his ideas [at previous club Braga], he changed the dynamic, he created empathy, and of course a big club like Sporting Lisbon paid to have him.

"The first thing that this [Sporting] president said was, 'We believe that the money I'm paying for Ruben Amorim is going to prevail and he's going to create value in the youth development players and also get results'. He was correct."
