Liverpool fans demand LFCTV pundit is sacked after hearing what he said about Mo Salah

The claim was made before the Egyptian scored today against Ipswich Town.

Mo Salah found the back of the net once again today and will surely go down as one of Liverpool's greatest ever goalscorers - but many of the club's fans have not liked what one LFCTV pundit said about him regarding his world class status.

Salah arrived at Liverpool in 2017 from Italian side Roma in a deal worth up to £43m, which at the time was a club record transfer fee.

It would be fair to say that investment has proved to be an excellent one, as Salah has often been the talisman behind the Anfield club's success on the pitch in the decade since his arrival.

The Egyptian international has scored 212 goals in 350 appearances for the Merseyside club, and has won a host of trophies during his time there.

These include the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the League Cup.

Salah is currently in the final year of his Liverpool contract following a three-year deal which he signed back in 2022, meaning this is potentially the beginning of his final year at the club, unless he pens fresh terms.

The 32-year-old scored earlier today as Liverpool began their reign under Arne Slot with three points in a 2-0 victory against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

After Diogo Jota put Liverpool ahead on the hour, Salah scored shortly afterwards to double their lead and secure the three points against the Tractor Boys.

In the build-up to the game on LFCTV, European Cup and First Division winner Gary Gillespie, who spent nearly a decade at Anfield during the eighties and early nineties, questioned if Salah remains a world class talent.

He said: "We talk about Mohamed Salah being a world class footballer - is he a world class footballer?

"I don't think he is a world class footballer, but his stats suggest that he is, because his stats are through the roof."

And Liverpool fans reacting to the comments on social media made it clear they do not agree with Gillespie.

One went as far as to say: "Calling the best player in prem history not a world class footballer on live television should get u sacked the same the day."

Another agreed, writing: "Gillespie saying this is madness? He must have watched the same players as I the last 30 years since hanging up his boots & only Gerrard showed the level of consistency in his position that Salah has over a number of years. There's nobody out there I would swap Salah for!"

While one supporter added: "He's not world class but his stats suggest it. Its like he's arguing against himself."
