It has been one of the big topics of conversation amongst Liverpool fans but people think Virgil van Dijk has made up his mind on signing a new contract after he posted a cryptic message on Instagram.

Van Dijk is one of three players, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, to have just six months remaining on their current deals at Anfield.

The 33-year-old defender, who spoke about his desire to keep playing at the top level ahead of Thursday's clash against Leicester City, is "very likely" to extend his stay, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

And now, the Dutchman has potentially hinted at the idea of signing a new deal with a post on Instagram.

Liverpool had to deal with a thick Merseyside fog throughout their 3-1 victory over Leicester, which could explain Van Dijk's caption, but some supporters think there is another motive to his interesting choice of words.

Here's how they reacted to Van Dijk's post on social media.

One said: "THE CAPTION???" and another commented: "He's telling us already man."

A third wrote: "Van Dijk giving us a cryptic confirmation on Instagram that he's signed a new Liverpool contract," while a fourth said: "As much as I want it to be about his contract it’s definitely about how the game nearly got called off."

A fifth added: "Does it mean what i think it is."

As mentioned above, Van Dijk opened up on his desire to keep playing at the highest level ahead of their relatively straightforward victory over Leicester on Thursday.

Speaking to The Times, he said: "I love the club, the club loves me. I love the fans, the fans love me and it is a very good foundation to be successful.

"In my opinion I can play for another three, four years at least at the highest level. We will see what the future brings."

Van Dijk also stated he would love to become the first Dutch player to lift the Premier League title as captain, adding: "It’s not about me but I would love to be the first one [Dutch player]. I think it is there. That is what we work for as a team."
