Liverpool fans demand player leaves club this week despite Newcastle win as perfect replacement named

Liverpool fans are calling on a first team star to leave the club before the end of the transfer window despite their incredible 3-2 win over Newcastle at St James' Park.

Rio Ngumoha, four days before his 17th birthday, scored a stunning winner for Arne Slot's side against 10-man Newcastle.

Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike scored for Liverpool in the first half as they maintained their 100 per cent record - albeit after only two games - in this season's Premier League in dramatic fashion.

Anthony Gordon was sent off for Newcastle in the first half, but the Magpies kept pushing forward and halved the deficit through Bruno Guimaraes' 58th-minute goal.

Then, on 88 minutes, the hosts produced an equaliser through substitute William Osula, who scored just his second Premier League goal for the club.

But it was Ngumoha who had the final say in what will go down as one of the greatest Premier League matches in modern history.

It was set to be a stunning end to the game for Eddie Howe's 10-man Magpies, who were the better side for the vast majority of the match despite spending half of it a player down, but they found themselves on the wrong end of the result.

The result was the only thing that mattered for Liverpool - but fans were still repeatedly critical of one player during the match.

Ibrahima Konate has entered the last year of his contract at Anfield and, after struggling on the opening day of the season against Bournemouth, again had a difficult night up against the Magpies.

The France centre-back was outmuscled by Dan Burn in the build-up to Newcastle's equaliser and made a costly mistake that almost led to a goal in the first half.

Konate has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and, amid Liverpool interest in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, Reds fans think now is the time for Konate to follow Trent Alexander-Arnold to the Bernabeu.

One wrote at half-time: "Konate is mentally in Madrid. Dire for much of the half. Get Guehi in asap."

Another said: "Guehi replaces Konate very easily, by the way. Not sure what's happening with him? Pay that extra £5m tonight."

And a third added: "Konate seems like he's completely clocked out. Sign Guehi this week to start and make him a backup."
