Liverpool fans think Arne Slot has a major 'problem' on his hands after West Ham win

Liverpool fans think Arne Slot has a major 'problem' on his hands after West Ham win

Liverpool smashed West Ham United 5-1 in the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool fans think Arne Slot has a 'problem' on his hands following his side's big win over West Ham United in the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool eased their way into the next round of the competition with a comfortable 5-1 victory over West Ham at Anfield on Wednesday.

The Hammers took the lead when Jarell Quansah put through his own net.

But Diogo Jota levelled four minutes later before putting his side ahead just after the break.

Mohamed Salah added a third before Cody Gakpo scored a quick-fire brace late on.

And it was Gakpo's scintillating performance on the left wing that got fans online talking.

He started ahead of Luis Diaz, who has been a regular fixture in the Premier League.

But after the Dutch star's dominant outing in the cup, Liverpool fans believe Slot has a selection problem when it comes to picking a player for the left wing.

One X user claimed: "Slot’s got a problem you know, Gakpo’s class from the left wing, but Diaz is in the form of his life in the same position."

A second wrote: "I cannot believe we had Cody Gakpo playing in midfield and through the middle last season. He’s so clearly a left winger. He’s electric there."

Referencing Slot, a third added: "The man knows he has one massive headache with Gakpo and Diaz lmao."

Another said: "Diaz vs Gakpo is going to be a movie this season."

A fifth joked: "Cody Gakpo really saw Luis Diaz performance on Saturday and saw it as a threat."

On his fellow countryman's showing, Slot said: "But it was good to see that Cody has such a fantastic shot, and we have to bring him in those situations, but apart from that I think that 20 minutes before the end, 15 minutes before the end, he had a very important clearance in his own 18-yard box, so that's what I like to see - the quality on the ball but the work rate without the ball."

Gakpo, who starred at this summer's Euro 2024, has yet to start a league game this season.

Slot has preferred Diaz on the left, with the Colombian repaying his manager's faith.

The 27-year-old already has five league goals to his name this season.

He appears in line to return to the starting XI when the Reds resume their league campaign on Saturday at Wolves.
