Liverpool fans think Arne Slot has let slip one of his top transfer targets during his pre-match Girona press conference.

Liverpool resume their Champions League venture on Tuesday when they face La Liga outfit Girona.

The Reds have won their opening five fixtures in this season's European campaign, notably beating Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen.

Speaking ahead of the Estadi Montilivi clash, Slot spoke at length about how Girona play and specifically referenced Miguel Gutierrez, who inverts from left-back.

The Liverpool boss spoke at length about what Gutierrez brings to the table, having been impressed by his performances.

What's particularly interesting about Slot's comment is that the club are seemingly in the market for a new left-back as they are looking to sign a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, who has been at Anfield since 2017.

Gutierrez could be a left-back Liverpool attempt to sign next summer as fans are convinced Slot has dropped a hint over his transfer intentions.

One X user wrote: "Gutierrez's interpretation of that role is up there with the best. Insane understanding of where the space is in relation to his teammates!"

A second tweeted: "He’s excellent. I hope he’s on our lb list."

A third mentioned Girona's ties with Manchester City, adding: "Surely Man City gonna have first dibs?"

Another commented: "Great to see slot recognising Gutierrez. One of the best lb's in La Liga."

Liverpool have only made two signings since Slot's appointment, with goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and winger Federico Chiesa joining the club.

But the club appears to be in a position to recruit next summer.

A new left-back seems to be a priority, with several names linked with a move to the Reds, including Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez.
